The glaze is a matte, sand-toned speckle over a dark clay body. At the rims and lid knob the glaze thins to a toasted edge — that contrast is fired in, not painted on.

We like this one for desks and hotel rooms: the two bowls nest under the gaiwan and the whole stack is palm-sized. The granite speckling is in the glaze itself and the rims break to a toasted brown where the clay shows through — no two sets speckle alike.
