Description

A classic three-piece gaiwan with a broad blue-and-white lotus pattern. The lid, bowl and saucer give you direct control over short infusions, making it a practical first gaiwan rather than a piece reserved for display.

Why we selected it

A gaiwan has no hidden mechanism: tilt the lid to strain, hold the saucer, and pour. The form makes leaf color and aroma easy to observe and works across many loose-leaf tea styles.

What to expect

The white porcelain body carries cobalt lotus and scrolling motifs. A raised foot and fitted saucer keep the hot bowl off the table and support traditional handling.

  • Complete lid-bowl-saucer form
  • Broad cobalt lotus decoration
  • Suitable for short loose-leaf infusions
  • Clear white interior makes tea color easy to see

The clear white interior is more useful than it looks—you can actually read the color of the liquor. The bowl is intended for short pours, not for holding by the body like a large mug.

Lovely, with a handmade touch. Beautiful classic blue and white, lid fits snugly and it holds heat well. Took one star off because the lotus painting is a little different from the close-up shot — but they do say every piece is hand-painted, so I get it. Still a gorgeous gaiwan for the price.
