The body is glazed a warm cream with fine dark specks, closer to old stoneware than bright white porcelain. The banana leaves and shoulder ring are decorated in grey-blue underglaze, so the pattern sits under the surface and will not rub off.
Each jar is decorated before glazing, and the line work varies slightly, so no two jars match exactly. The lid is cut to rest flush on the shoulder rather than snap tight.
