Material & craft

The glaze is a matte, sand-toned speckle over a dark clay body. At the rims and lid knob the glaze thins to a toasted edge — that contrast is fired in, not painted on.

Why we selected it

The gaiwan bowl carries a small pulled spout, so it pours like a tiny teapot without needing a separate pitcher. The bowls are wide and low, easy to hold while hot.
