Material & craft

The glaze is reactive: it moves in the kiln, pooling into deep mottled blue where it runs thick and breaking into rust-brown speckle where it thins at rims and ridges. The pattern cannot be repeated exactly.

Why we selected it

The maker mixes two cup shapes in one set — two flower-form, two round — so the tea table feels collected rather than uniform. Foot rings are left unglazed to show the clay.

Why doesn't my set match the photos exactly?
The reactive glaze moves differently in every firing — depth of blue and amount of rust speckle will vary. That variation is the point of this glaze.
Are the rust-colored edges damage?
No — that is the glaze breaking thin over the clay at the edges, a fired-in effect, not chips or wear.
How many people does it serve?
Comfortable for two to four drinkers brewing gongfu-style.

Pretty AND functional. The lid seals nicely so my oolong actually stays fresh. The hand-painted blue and white is lovely, and I love that it's a working jar rather than just decoration. Came wrapped like they genuinely cared about it arriving intact.

Even better than the photo — I was nervous the colors wouldn't match the picture, but they're somehow better in person. The little cubes catch the light on their flat faces in a way round beads just don't. Mine came out coral and teal and it goes with literally everything I own. And they weren't kidding about every bead being one-of-a-kind — mine looks nothing like my friend's, and we both love that. Stretch cord, no clasp, just slips on.
